Kanabasis
Kanabasis. La Loba is an open-air butoh spectacle.
Kanabasis is a combination of two words: katabasis (downward movement, stepping down to the abyss) and anabasis (upward movement).
Kanabasis is a journey of archetype characters through the mythical time and space of Dreaming in search of the lost power and the lost soul.
The performance is built around the character of La Loba – the One who Sings Over the Bones. The Bones symbolise a rebirth, the fact that we are in possession of the source, the primary element, and therefore we have the power to fix all the havoc of our psyche.
La Loba “…sings the song of rebirth… to sing is to speak in the voice of the soul – on the desert of the soul, strewn with bones, she directs her breath to us – transforming us…” (Pinkola Clarissa Estes, Women who Run with the Wolves)
