TANGO OR DOUBLES

Sylwia Hanff:

"TANGO AL SOBOWTÓRY" is a performance inspired by T. Kantor's Theater of Love and Death. In Kantor's language, it is cricotage - a type of activity derived from the practice of the Cricot 2 Theater, created during workshops, and its shape is co-created by the participants. We treated Grochów as a symbolic place belonging to our personal mythology, just like Wielopole, which took on a mythical character in Kantor's plays. We were interested in topics such as: longing for the heimat (little homeland), identity in relation to the figure of the double and ancestors, the figure of the dybbuk, what is "on the other side", the theater of the Day of the Dead, the connection of life and death. From the common Dreaming, in our "Room of Imagination", characters "like from Kantor" appeared: the Life-Death Photographer, the Dead Wanderers, the Dancer with Souls and the Dancer with the Ancestors, the City Shaman celebrating the "liturgy of the lowest order" in the postmodern style of the 21st century. and the dreamlike figure of the Infanta, who - just like in Kantor's room - appeared unexpectedly at night...

Cricotage operates with REALITY.
Liberated from all "plot".
Its fragments, relics and traces
torn out by the power of IMAGINATION,
defying all conventions and "common" sense
are coupled
to such a degree of strength,
that they may succumb at any time
bursting
[…]
Characters, situations, remnants of the action
they are not symbols.
Rather, they are LOADS,
that cause tensions.
They border on "IMPOSSIBLE" and "UNIMAGINABLE".
